 CONSERVING WITH AIR TRAVEL

FIRST WE SAVE, THEN WE PAY

CAN YOU SAVE GREEN WHILE FLYING IN AIR TRAVEL...

INTRODUCTION: Did you know that they introduced no-frills low cost flights in 1993. They took away the weight of extra food, lowered cost as much as possible and tried to save on fuel in different ways at the same time. This has allowed us to enjoy low cost flights but what about environmental inexpensive trips, green flying.

DEBATE: Should we fly anywhere, considering the carbon footprint of an airline is so large. Did you know that low cost airlines are not so good for the environment? They lower the price by increasing the number of flights. The more flights they make the more CO2 and CO emissions, which contribute to climate change and emissions. Emissions from the aviation industries have doubled between 1990 and 2000. The great contribution that low cost airlines has allowed is the opportunity to have those with lower income to be able to travel.

It doesn't stop at just airlines, but when you ship packages, air freight uses a great deal of fuel as well. Air travel is one of the larger contributors to Carbon Emissions.

THE GREEN DECISION: Whenever planning to travel by air, consider a few options if you are concerned about the environment.

#1. Not Carbon Offsets/ Environmental Donations - You can pay a company (such as: Carbonblueprints.org) not to offset the carbon you will be using by flying with an airline company but to donate the equivalent of carbon offsets you would use. By doing this, the company that you choose can plant trees (reforestation), support alternative energy, support others who can't afford to conserve at their homes, or other green projects we are envolved in. This will go far in offsetting the carbon in the atmosphere today. By doing this, you will be taking care of the environment for everything that you put into it.

#2. You can plant a few trees yourself, this would offset a great deal of carbon emissions with consideration that those trees and plants with consume that CO2 and create oxygen for the environment and food for the tree.

#3. You can find an alternative way of transportation and delivering your packages/freight by ground, this is a more carbon efficient mode than air travel.
