WHAT ARE FOSSIL FUELS & INFLUENCE?:
Global Warming, in theory (until proven through this discussin or absolute sciencific fact) happens when greenhouse gas emissions collect in the earth/planet's atmosphere, whether man-made or naturally made. The sun's energy/heat rays enter the atmosphere, bounce off the earth's surface and while trying to exit our atmosphere is blocked by these greenhouse emissions and absorbed or reflected back towards earth. When fossil fuels and other organic material is burned, carbon is released, mixed with oxygen it produces carbon dioxide. This is considered a greenhouse gas, making the atmosphere act like a greenhouse. |

Fossil fuels, in the way of petroleum products, are used in every aspect of our lives including energy, asphault, ointments, etc. When this petroleum product is burned, it also releases carbon dioxide and other gases into the atmosphere. The earth releases these gases as well as animals, and especially humans. The earth creates the most greenhouse gases into our atmoshere, next are animals, then are humans. The largest man-made producer of carbon dioxide as well as other gases is through the burning of fossil fuels mainly oil.
Some may say that the earth produces more greenhouse gases in one volcanic eruption then humans can ever produce, which is true. On the other hand others say why should we add to the problem. Fossil fuels are burned to create electricity, move machinery, and power our cars and transport humans. The amount of carbon dioxide as well as other greenhouse gases in the atmosphere is great.
As humans and caretakers of our environment we should take responsibility to take care of earth. As you can read below, the human race is doing a great deal towards helping minimize our effect of the earth but we should also remember we live here too and must do things to help the human race. Sounds selfish, well not when people start changing their thinking to be CONSERVATION MINDED. The truth is, the earth was made for us (humans), not us for the earth.

UCS - UNION OF CONCERNED SCIENTISTS - The Hidden Cost of Fossil Fuels
(CONFIRMED WITH DATA) |
Among the gases emitted when fossil fuels are burned, one of the most significant is carbon dioxide, a gas that traps heat in the earth's atmosphere. Over the last 150 years, burning fossil fuels has resulted in more than a 25 percent increase in the amount of carbon dioxide in our atmosphere. Fossil fuels are also implicated in increased levels of atmospheric methane and nitrous oxide, although they are not the major source of these gases.
Since reliable records began in the late 1800s, the global average surface temperature has risen 0.5-1.1 degrees Fahrenheit (0.3-0.6 degrees Celsius). Scientists with the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change concluded in a 1995 report that the observed increase in global average temperature over the last century "is unlikely to be entirely natural in origin" and that "the balance of evidence suggests that there is a discernible human influence on global climate." |
Under development by the Department of Energy's Office of Fossil Energy, the concept envisions a virtually pollution-free energy plant. Unlike today's single purpose power plants that produce only electricity, a Vision 21 plant would produce multiple products - perhaps electricity in combination with liquid fuels and chemicals or hydrogen or industrial process heat. It also would not be restricted to a single fuel type; instead, it could process a wide variety of fuels such as coal, natural gas, biomass, petroleum coke (from oil refineries), and municipal waste. It would generate electricity at unprecedented efficiencies, and coupled with carbon sequestration technologies, it would emit little if any greenhouse gases into the atmosphere. |
DOE - DEPARTMENT OF ENERGY - New plants to be built that are virtually pollution free.
(FACTS - Research is being done to build these.) |
CATF - CLEAN AIR TASK FORCE - Electric power industry is the largest toxic polluter
(MUST CONFIRM WITH DATA) |
The electric power industry is the largest toxic polluter in the country. Producing electricity from coal and oil releases a wide range of pollutants into the environment. In addition to toxic air pollution from power plant smokestacks, large volumes of toxic chemicals are produced at coal and oil-fired power plants and included in millions of tons of solid and liquid wastes that are typically disposed of at or near the power plants that generate these wastes. |
