FIRST WE SAVE, THEN WE PAY

THE HOME IS THE FASTEST AND BEST PLACE TO OFFSET CARBON EMISSIONS, URBAN FORESTS ARE MORE EFFICIENT THAN OTHER FORESTS ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE WORLD...

  • A study was completed by two University of Illinois researchers (Kuo and Sullivan) which looked into how well residents of the largest public housing development in the world, Chicago Robert Taylor Housing Project, felt in their daily lives based upon the amount of contact they had with trees. This is the conclusion:
  • Police calls for domestic violence, social service budgeting, and child abuse incidences decreased possibly due to the interaction with the trees and tree coverage. Chicago Officials took this information and planted 20,000 more trees ($10 million) because of this research.
  • Stronger ties and better relationships are increased in neighborhood with large tree coverage.
  • Fewer incidences of physical violence were reported from houses with trees outside. The interviews showed that: 14% of residents living in barren conditions have threatened to use knives or guns against their kids versus 3% of the residents living in wooded areas. (15)
  • Patients recoving in hospitals are more likely to get better faster and with less complications if they have a view of trees out their window compared to those without such a view. (13)
  • Texas A&M studies conclude that trees help relax and increase well-being for the average person.
  • The U.S. Department of Energy concluded a study reporting that trees reduce noise pollution by absorbing 50% of urban noise.
